Jerome Makes Good TikTok Videos. Yes, That’s a Thing
By: Ben McEachen
If you are on the streets of Sydney, you just might bump into meet Jerome Yassa and his microphone.
A young guy with an interest in what you have to say, Jerome posts short interview videos on TikTok and Instagram as TGF.
Some have blown up, clocking hundreds of thousands of views. Jerome even gets recognised as he approaches strangers with his mobile on a tripod.
“I interview randoms” is TGF’s brief and accurate purpose statement. Thing is, plenty are doing that online. Rather, heaps and heaps and heaps and heaps are doing that online.
But what’s notable about TGF’s channels is the undercurrent of Jerome’s Christian faith, gently flowing within everyday topics of depth and insight.
In an interview, Jerome talked about what it takes to make good video content with a very deliberate approach, as well as the hard work involved in being active online, and why his videos are only a “gateway” to the main event: your own relationship with God.
‘It’s not really a Christian page, it’s a page run by Christians’, explains Jerome. ‘I don’t want to make it look like I’m a “bible basher” but at the same time, I’m not going to shy away from my faith. I feel like that’s a better way in approaching Christ to others.’
Jerome always has his interview questions planned out and aims to lead the conversation in a way that will eventual link to God. However only 1 in every 10 people will say yes to an interview. Jerome says he completely understands and respects when people say no, but more people are saying yes as he is gets more recognised and known. He admits that it can play havoc with his ego and is constantly praying that God helps him with it, to keep him humble.
It takes quite a bit of work, but Jerome usually films the video on his own using a tripod, as he doesn’t want to take someone else’s time doing it. He films at least twice a week – taking about 2 hours at a time, any many think he is doing interviews every day, but this is not his job.
When asked if he would like his TikTok interviews to be his main job Jerome says, ‘I would like my job to be helping out others – wherever God leads me and wants me to do, that’s what I want to do.’
