How Obedience and the Kindness of God Led to the Solo Album, ‘TAYA’
By: Steff Willis
While most are familiar with Taya’s voice from songs like the multi-platinum Hillsong UNITED track, Oceans (Where Feet May Fail), it’s been a long time since Taya has written her own songs.
Originally hailing from Lismore, the film location for her music video for her single For All My Life, Taya moved to Sydney to become a recording artist. When faced with the choice of buying a piano or eating dinner, practically won out and songwriting was put on the back burner for 7 years.
Taya talked in an interview about how she felt that God was prompting her to use her songwriting talent in a greater way.
“I just felt like I’d been burying the songwriting talent” says Taya when discussing the Parable of the Talents from Matthew 25 and how she wanted to be a good steward of everything God has given her.
This fourteen-track album reflects Taya’s journey of trusting God and walking in obedience which is demonstrated in her first single, For All My Life.
“I love that this is a song I could sing for the rest of my life, confidently, because it’s based on Proverbs 3:5-6 which is ‘trust in the Lord with all of your heart and lean not on your own understanding but in all your ways acknowledge Him and he will make your paths straight’ and I just love that that would be the truth that I would get to either sing over people or that they would join in.”
“Obedience isn’t necessarily the most attractive word for people but it’s the word that will bring the most fruit.”
“My prayer is that one of the 14 songs would resonate with people either with the moments that they’ve had over the last 2 years, perhaps the confession that they need for the next season or perhaps the balm that they just didn’t know that they would need”.
TAYA, the debut album is out now.
